lydia suggests a book (or 2).

first time posting, not sure how this will work, but here goes. right now i'm reading edward rutherford's "new york", which I am LOVING- have read all his other works, and he doesn't disappoint. if you've been to NYC you really "see" what he's writing about. also reading "the girl with the dragon tattoo" steig larrson-really good, and love his description of the swedish villages. i'm also in the library queue to get jaqueline winspear's newest-the mapping of love and death. one other book that has been languishing on my nightstand is diana gabaldon's "echo in the bone"-love her books are so long and detailed-it's great vacation reading. oh so many books so little time.

  1. I love Edward Rutherford's books! Have you read Sarum? It's been my favorite so far. We're taking a trip to NYC this fall so I'll definitely put his New York book on my list. Happy reading!

  2. ohhh - I didn't realize Sarum's author was the same as New York that Lydia's reading. Did he also write London? (I know, I could google and find the answer, but if you guys have read the book, I'd love your reviews, too!) ...and Sarum is now on my nightstand thanks to Beth!

  3. i have read sarum-LOVED IT-read it after i visited sailsbury plain-the only one i haven't read is one of the ireland books either princes or rebels. can't seem to find it in the us. he did write london, and the forest which is about richmond park where all the kings deer still roam. LOVED them both, so much so that since i had given away my paperback copy of london, but found a hard back on sale at B&N and bought it just to have on the shelf. he just does a great job of weaving fictional characters with historical places and events. beth, i'd read NY before you go, a lot of the buildings and areas he writes about are still in existance. he brings the landscape to life.

  4. He also wrote Russka which I am in the middle of reading. I took a break from it then forgot to go back. :) I think I own London but haven't read it yet.

I'll be sure to read New York before we go. Reading it might help me plan out the trip, too.

  6. We have no plans yet. I guess we'd better start developing some! I know I'd love to see the Met and possibly take in a show. Not sure what my husband and daughter want to do.
